DAVID: (Study 15): David’s Hands Raised, Not Against The Anointed

I Samuel 24:1-22

King Saul incessantly chased David on tip-off, from wilderness to wilderness across Israel. He set over 3000 chosen men against David through the wilderness of Engedi, like after a wild goat. He spent more time, men an energy against David than he did against the philistines, who are the enemies of Israel. Saul had shunned the real enemy and had faced an imagined enemy in David.

In this hide and seek scenario, there was the testing and proving of the magnanimity of David’s heart. In the same scenario, there was also the open display of the fears and deceptiveness rooted in Saul’s heart.

Discussion/Interaction

King Saul raised 3000 men from ALL Israel against David. These he did not do against the philistines the nation’s enemy. Discuss how grave the personal enemity of Saul against David?

And he said unto his men, the Lord forbid that I should do these things unto my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch forth my hand against him seeing he is the anointed of the Lord. I Samuel 24:6. Let’s discuss the state of David’s heart?

Know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, and I have not sin against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it. I Samuel 24:11b. Can we discuss this self declaration of David’s heart to Saul

And he said to David, thou art more righteous than I; for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I rewarded thee evil. I Samuel 24:17. Discuss this self declaration of Saul’s heart to David.

Swear now therefore unto me by the Lord, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou will not destroy my name out of thy father’s house. I Samuel 24:21. Discuss this fear in Saul’s heart driving his enemity against David
